When SWE-ECI members weren't learning and networking with other attendees they were able to explore Houston. They were able to get a taste of downtown shops/restaurants, toured Rice University, Johnson Space Center, and the Rockwell Collins Location in Houston.
"It was delightful", with lots of "engaging discussions", in the words of SWE-ECI members in attendance. Some favorite sessions included NASA's STEM panel discussion, How to negotiate a Starting Wage and Salary, Multiple Perceptions/Best practices for Money Management, and 'Superwomanengineer' (how to stay efficient and sane). Speaker contact information was provided to those in attendance for copies of the slides in addition to reference websites and books for those especially interested in learning more. Another highlight for SWE-ECI occured at the Region H meeting, where SWE-ECI leaders received an award for Professional Membership Growth in a Medium Section.
If you missed out on WE12, look for information about next year's annual conference, WE13, which will be held in Baltimore, Maryland! It is always exciting to explore a new city and culture, network with like-minded females, inspire other young women to keep working hard through college for the rewarding payout of being a female engineer! Also, don't forget about the Region H Conference in February at the University of Minnesota! Be sure to keep checking the website for more information about those too! Don't miss the opportunity that these big conferences have to offer!
