And another student asked “How did you choose a school?”
Each year the University of Iowa SWE section invites high school women to join them for a weekend conference. While at the conference, the attendees have the opportunity to choose to attend demonstrations, tours, and question and answer sessions with current Iowa students. During dinner the students are joined by professionals in the area to answer additional questions about life after college as an engineer.
After dinner and the panel, there are games like “Guess the Male Engineer” During this game, there is a group of collegiate men that answer a series of questions asked by the high school girls, then the ladies have to guess of they are an engineering student or not. The intent of the game is to illustrate stereotypes about engineers and other students on campus, as well as demonstrate what engineering is really like through the questions asked.
The high school students will continue their experience overnight, as they stay with current Iowa engineering students in campus residences. On Saturday, there is a 3D Virtual Reality Tour, a student panel, and theCollege of Engineering’s Explore Enginnering@Iowa activities.\
