For the fourth year in a row, Rockwell Collins has donated $8,000 to our East Central Iowa Society of Women Engineer's chapter. Thanks to these funds, we can continue to hold free networking events, technical tours, and outreach events in our community. We also sponsor travel to the Iowa, Region H, and Annual conference for our members. Thank you Rockwell Collins for all you do for this chapter.

To finish of E-Week, SWE-ECI helped with the 2013 Iowa Championship for FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) at the University of Iowa. Each year a new challenge is presented to teams of 7-12 graders to solve by building a robot. This year’s competition, “Ring It Up!,” was a lot of fun to watch. A total of 48 teams from five states competed in two divisions for the privilege of advancing to The World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 24-27.
This year Rebecca Reck, SWE-ECI’s Section Representative, was recognized as one of SWE’s New Faces of Engineering Award, and was featured in in the Winter 2013 issue of SWE Magazine. This award recognizes the accomplishments of early–career engineers, highlighting the breadth of possibilities an engineering career offers, and at the same time, putting a youthful face on the profession.

There were approximately 30 people in attendance and it enhanced a great environment for networking.
Engineers are asked to do more with fewer resources. This has driven many companies to have a renewed focus on Lean, the process of reducing waste in a process without reducing value. Linda Snow-Solum and her team look for ways to make engineering more efficient, more productive, and more effective by standardizing tools and processes across Rockwell Collins every day.
