On Friday April 5th several members of the SWE-ECI Core board attended the annual high school conference event hosted by the University of Iowa Collegiate SWE section. This year ~50 female high school juniors and seniors spent the weekend on campus emerged in the world of UIowa Engineering and SWE. Most of the attendees were either considering the University of Iowa for school, or had already decided to attend and were interested to learn more about engineering and meet future classmates.
Engineers are asked to do more with fewer resources. This has driven many companies to have a renewed focus on Lean, the process of reducing waste in a process without reducing value. Linda Snow-Solum and her team look for ways to make engineering more efficient, more productive, and more effective by standardizing tools and processes across Rockwell Collins every day.
Tuesday October 30th, core board members Becky Reck, Katie Morin, Olie Ray, and Nikki Morey attended the Corridor Women Connect (CWC) Fall celebration of women leaders. The event featured a panel of women leaders from local companies including Brenda Clancy, Chief Operations Officer at Transamerica, Nancy Kasparek, Regional President at U.S. Bank, Linda Mattes, Director, general planning and Construction Alliant Engergy, and Anne Parmley, President, National Services at Pearson.
In an effort to expand our network in Eastern Iowa, and to make sure all local women engineers are aware of SWE, our section held a recruiting event at the Cedar Rapids General Mills factory, similar to the recruiting event hosted in Rockwell Collins a few months ago.
To kick off FY13 the leadership of SWE-ECI held two Strategic Planning Sessions. The purpose of these meetings was to bring current SWE members and interested potential SWE members within the East Central Iowa Section together to clearly define how SWE-ECI can best provide value to the members of the section and to the community in FY13.
On April 9, 2011, SWE-ECI held the inaugural All Iowa SWE Conference at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center. The event was well attended by all 4 Iowa SWE professional chapters. Thank you to our sponsors, HR Green, Rockwell Collins, General Mills, John Deere, HyVee, and Terracon. |
