The new SWE-ECI Core Board had the opportunity to meet each other in person for some axe throwing at Civil Axe Throwing. The group divided up into teams of two for a fun competition. The winners and top axe throwers were Shelby & Jill! Afterward, the group went out for dinner at The Map Room. It was a great opportunity to get to know the two new members on the Core Board this year, Henal and Sarah, and continue to grow our relationships with our veteran Core Board Members! We are looking forward to a great FY and hope to see many of you in person soon!

Each year, ECI's new Core Board gets together for a bonding event to get to know each other better. Due to circumstances this year it had to be virtual, but we made it work! On July 12th, our team had a virtual game night, playing Codenames. Most people had played it before, but it was new to a couple of us. The game really helped us learn how each other thinks, while providing many laughs, as well!
![]() On Wednesday, December 9th, members of SWE-ECI gathered at the Rockwell Collins Rec Center to take a yoga class led by core board member, Elise. We started the evening by focusing on our breathing and Elise set the mood with some relaxing music and scents of sandalwood and lavender. We then spent an energizing hour learning some basic stretches and even did some balancing. It was a great way to refocus during the busy holiday season. A few of us headed to Panera afterwards for smoothies and networking. It was a great evening all around. Thanks to all who attended! This year's event was a great success! 30 Junior Girl Scouts attended "Step into STEM!" hosted by SWE-ECI where they spent the day learning about engineering and participating in various activities with our volunteers.
A few of the activities included using ASCII to "code" the letters of their name into a necklace, building a motorized kick-stick to send ping pong balls flying across the room, and making super slime!- a polymer made from glue and borax. The day wrapped up with an Egg Drop team activity where groups of 3 girls had a limited budget to 'purchase' supplies for their device- aimed to protect an egg from cracking when dropped from an elevated height. We had many successful teams! Sending a big thanks to all our volunteers that help make this event possible, it's always wonderful to see the next generation excited about Science and Technology! Click on the article to see all our pictures from the day. On Thursday, June 18th, nine members from SWE-ECI attended the GE Women's Network annual fundraiser for SWE scholarships. The event was held at Bloomsbury Farms and included dinner and a murder mystery show! The ladies enjoyed the meal, networking, and trying to solve the murder. Congrats to those who figured out that Jimmy the Fish the mobster killed Harry Hind in the 1920s themed speakeasy. It was a fun night and thanks to all who came out!
On Thursday, September 11th, SWE-ECI had our annual night out at the Cedar Ridge Winery. A number of women from General Mills, Rockwell Collins, Quaker, Dupont, P&G, HR Green, and other local companies came to network and socialize.
It was a great opportunity to network and learn about other companies in the area. The members from Dubuque were all very fun and enthusiastic about SWE. We played games, avoided obstacles, ate, drank, and people watched. Overall it was a fun event that we all agreed we should do again next year! On Sat July 23rd SWE-ECI joined the Dubuque SWE section in Monticello to go rafting on the Wapsipinicon River. Although the day started out stormy, 11 brave souls ended up making the journey and having a blast!
On Thursday, Mayl 24th, members and friends (including several four-legged friends!) of SWE-ECI gathered at Jones Park in Cedar Rapids for the SWE-ECI Spring Picnic. The weather was perfect to be outdoors!
The SWE E-week celebration included a chance to network with engineers from several different companies all sharing their experiences.
On December 11, 2013 members and friends of SWE-ECI met at White Star Ale House to learn about relaxation and stress relief (a fitting topic for the holidays!), and have a little fun while networking.
