Five core board members visited the University of Iowa's SWE section on Tuesday, 9/27, for a career fair panel. They were able to answer current student's questions about interviewing, job applications, and making good impressions at career fairs. The University of Iowa's Engineering Career Fair will be next week on October 6th. Thanks to the core board members who drove down the Iowa City for the night, and best of luck to students at the career fair next week!

Katie Allen, SWE-ECI President, and Melissa Plourde, SWE-ECI Section Representative, attended the annual HART leadership conference for Region H this past weekend, September 24th. The conference was held in Minneapolis and despite some travel concerns with the flooding, everyone got there safely and had a great time. Leaders from all over the Midwest came for a day of governance updates, professional development, best practice sharing, and networking.
On Wednesday, September 21st, SWE hosted a cross-company webinar viewing over the lunch hour from a SWE module. It was a great success with over 40 attendees joining us from both the local companies (Rockwell Collins, General Mills, Dupont and Quaker Foods & Snacks) who hosted and over the phone! SWE-ECI provided lunch as well in this event.
The topic presented was, "What the History of Successful Women in STEM Fields Can Teach us About Finding Success (and Holding our Ground) Today." We used history and the stories of these successful, inspiring women to help propel us forward in our careers today. A great discussion followed after where we identified things that we could implement in our lives and daily work right away. Below is a picture of webinar attendees from General Mills. |
