On On March 28th, ladies from collegiate and professional SWE met up for an informational session and happy hour. We shared with them the benefits of being involved in professional SWE, how to find a section in their new hometowns, and some things we learned as we transitioned from full time students to full time employees. We also raffled off a first year professional membership, congratulations to Renae Kurpius on winning! Thanks to all the ladies that came out, and best of luck to our graduating U of I seniors!

WE Local Milwaukee was a great first of many WE Locals in the Midwest! The conference was held March 9th &10th. SWE-ECI was very impressed with level of organization and professionalism put into this Conference. There were many great sessions, tours, and outreach events to attend. Some highlights included the Milwaukee Tool Tour that Kristen attended, the Milwaukee Bucks Arena Construction Tour (NBA) given by Mortenson Construction that Jill and Alexis attended, the SWENext Design Lab outreach event that Kristen, Ashley, and Victoria volunteered at, the numerous Keynote Speakers sharing their amazing stories, the great networking opportunities, and getting to see many familiar faces from around the Midwest. With WE Local we close a chapter for the Society - the Regions. Region H had our last in person meeting and Region Awards before the regions are dissolved at the end of the FY. SWE-ECI looks forward to attending some of the WE Locals planned for next year! Mark your calendars SWEsters: Denver, CO - January 25-26, 2019 Baltimore, MD - February 8-9, 2019 St. Louis, MO - March 1-2, 2019 Tampa, FL - March 15-16, 2019 Bellevue, WA - March 29-30, 2019 To kick of Engineering Week, SWE-ECI hosted a lunch webinar on Monday, February 19, at multiple companies throughout the corridor. Two great TED talks were shown while a delicious lunch was provided. We listened to electronics guru Tony Fadell explain his concept of "The First Secret of Design is Noticing", and we also watched Debbie Sterling talk about "Inspiring the Next Generation of Female Engineers" with her invention of Goldieblox. Engaging discussion and networking rounded out the lunch hour. Thank you to all who participated!
On February 8, SWE had the privilege of hosting SWENext (high school section) for a speed mentoring event at the Marion Public Library. The SWENext group came well prepared with a multitude of questions ranging from scholarships to college majors to choosing the right company to work for. Mentors from the professional section and the Iowa collegiate section shared their knowledge and background on their journey in STEM and the lessons they've learned along the way. Thank you to all of our participants - the mentors and the mentees!
