On Wednesday, November 12, Companies in the corridor hosted conference rooms with pizza to watch the webinar and listen to brand strategist, Catherine Kaputa. She stressed that many strategies used by companies to pitch their products can be leveraged when creating your personal brand and pitch.
This includes grabbing people in the first 15 seconds, sending a clear message, and adding visual imagery to make you memorable; To be unique, authentic, and relevant. She spoke about using a strong voice, being well-groomed, and taking a power pose such as leaning in. She also stressed the importance of expanding your network. She concluded with the 4Ses that make up a strong pitch: Simple, Specific, Stories, and Surprise. After the webinar, each company led their own discussion. The group at Rockwell Collins had a spirited discussion during which one member over the phone recommended watching Amy Cuddy’s Ted Talk. Overall, the event was an educational and rewarding way to spend a lunch hour.
