In an effort to expand our network in Eastern Iowa, and to make sure all local women engineers are aware of SWE, our section held a recruiting event at the Cedar Rapids General Mills factory, similar to the recruiting event hosted in Rockwell Collins a few months ago.
Eighteen women, mostly engineers, from all age groups attended the information session!!! We handed out our brochures and SWE business cards. All the ladies were very excited to learn more about SWE, including the already paid members and former collegiate members. We provided lunch and had a half hour to chat on an individual basis with all the interested General Mills ladies, which helped us to see what they would like to get out of being a local and national member. The most important aspects the interested members asked about were outreach opportunities, work-life balance, and career-life transitions, which are our main areas of focus as a section. At the end, we had all attendees fill out a short survey about the day, and to acquire contact information to keep informed of our goings-on. This event was held on October 25th at 11:30 AM, and though it rained throughout the morning, the level of enthusiasm from the General Mills attendees made for a greatly successful event!
