On April 15th, 44 high school students came to the University of Iowa campus to learn more about engineering as a major and a career. SWE-ECI once again hosted a Q&A session for the students. Six professionals representing General Mills, ITC, P&G, Quaker Oats, and Rockwell Collins were on the panel. They represented five different majors and many different career paths from operations to R&D. The students asked a lot of great questions and everyone seemed to learn something. Afterwards, the beautiful weather allowed everyone to go outside to dine on the SWE-ECI sponsored dinner. The panelists stayed to eat with the girls and answer any further question. It was a great night! Thanks to all the SWE-ECI members who helped out.

On April 10th, seven SWE-ECI members participated in High School Conference, hosted by The University of Iowa’s SWE Collegiate Section. High School Conference is a weekend event that allows high school juniors and seniors to learn about potential careers in engineering, visit The University of Iowa, explore the College of Engineering, and interact with SWE.
SWE-ECI provided dinner for 19 High School attendees and 22 SWE Collegiate volunteers. After dinner, the SWE-ECI members formally introduced themselves and answered questions about their college experiences and careers in engineering. Amongst the panelists, the following 5 companies were represented: Procter & Gamble Oral Care, Rockwell Collins, General Mills, ITC Holdings, and Quaker Oats. The UI SWE Collegiate Section and SWE-ECI are already coordinating for next year’s event to make it even more successful than this year! On Friday April 5th several members of the SWE-ECI Core board attended the annual high school conference event hosted by the University of Iowa Collegiate SWE section. This year ~50 female high school juniors and seniors spent the weekend on campus emerged in the world of UIowa Engineering and SWE. Most of the attendees were either considering the University of Iowa for school, or had already decided to attend and were interested to learn more about engineering and meet future classmates.
Once again, SWE-ECI supported the panel discussion at the High School Conference sponsored by the University of Iowa SWE Section. This year’s panel included Amber Johnson, Debarati Ray, Katie Morin, and Rebecca Reck from SWE-ECI and a couple others. The panel fielded questions from the students about what it is like to have a career in engineering.
